Name of the solution: Asset Description Metadata Schema (ADMS)
Solution's owner: DG DIGIT, European Commission, Europe
Description: The Asset Description Metadata Schema (ADMS) is a specification used to describe reusable solutions, such as data models and specifications, reference data and open source software. It was created with the help of a working group of experts. On 1 August 2013, W3C published ADMS as a W3C Working Group note.
Type of solution: Semantic asset
Asset Description Metadata Schema (ADMS) implements the following:
Principles | Interoperability layers | Conceptual model |
---|---|---|
✅ Openness | ✅ Technological neutrality | ✅ Open data |
✅ Technological neutrality | ✅ Interoperability governance | |
✅ Transparency | ✅ Semantic interoperability | |
✅ Reusability | ✅ Technical interoperability |
Asset Description Metadata Schema (ADMS) implements the following recommendations as explained below:
✅ Recommendation 4 | Principle 2: Openness
ADMS is based on open source, hence it helps to promote the usage of open specifications by public administrations.
✅ Recommendation 5 | Principle 3: Transparency
ADMS can be used to improve indexing and visibility of own assets.
✅ Recommendation 6 | Principle 4: Reusability
ADMS allows public officials working with metadata management to (re-)use or share semantic assets (metadata or reference data).
✅ Recommendation 9 | Principle 5: Technological neutrality
The ADMS data standard can be used by anyone working with metadata management to ensure data portability and interoperability.
✅ Recommendation 23 | Interoperability layer: Interoperability governance
The ADMS data standard can be used by public administrations with the need for a structure approach to metadata management.
✅ Recommendation 30 | Interoperability layer: Semantic interoperability
ADMS contributes to the perception of data as public data by allowing its users to link semantic assets to one another in cross-border and cross-sector settings.
✅ Recommendation 31 | Interoperability layer: Semantic interoperability
ADMS contributes to more efficient management of metadata for public officials.
✅ Recommendation 33 | Interoperability layer: Technical interoperability
ADMS is an open source solution.
✅ Recommendation 41 | Conceptual model: Open data
ADMS allows for developing and keeping own systems for documenting and storing semantic assets.
✅ Recommendation 42 | Conceptual model: Open data
ADMS helps to ensure the presence of high quality and machine readable metadata published in non-proprietary formats.
